'To know how to free oneself is nothing; the arduous thing is to know what
to do with one's freedom' Andre Gide
Duty/Free is a peek into the dynamic, authentic and autonomic creative process of
the Sandberg Institute Applied Arts department students. where different
backgrounds, disciplines, points of view and experiences meet. it is a union of
microcosms, a celebration of free thinking and making. participants showcase their
unique kind of freedom in their own specially designed space and visitors are
invited to tour through, find their way and discover new wonders.
Duty/Free is also a tribute to the leaving head of the department Andre Klein. Under
his wings some lucky students (including myself) could clear their own path, feel
free and secure to speak and make their own mind and get the chance to boldly go
where they have never been before.

MisUse is a free exploration of the use of the objects that lay around us. while
ignoring common manufacturer warnings and parental advisory i ventured into the
guilty pleasure of MisUse. using small add ons i tried out different ways to extract
devious fun out of innocent instruments.
Exhibited at Museum Waterland (NL) Ramat Gan Museum (IL)
follow the MisUse
blog.
Inspired by the dutch window decorations I sought to find
designers and families to match and redesign their street
facing window.
Rethinking the window as a threshold between the private
and the public gave both the designers and families the
opportunity to explore new grounds and rethink their role
the process and towards each other.
The outcome became an urban exhibition for people to
roam through and review their surroundings.
An exhibition documenting the process was presented in a
local art space and was also used as a meeting point for
visitors and participants.

Through following the complex relations between design, use and meaning the
book presents experience design as an alternative and relevant paradigm for todays
designers to explore.
Throughout the book different experiments are presented for readers to tryout and
figure stuff out for themselves.
as part of the DareGround project i created a series of toys that challenge the
so called innocence of children. through these toys kids can explore their
malicious nature and play, break, tear and poke.
The Wear&Tear doll is created through tearing it apart and making it your own.
The DoDoDoll can be characterized by pining paper body parts to it.
The HitTheRoad toy car is made of porcelain so the user can chose how to play with it and the consequences of his actions.
all MisChief toy have been tested and proved to be loved by kids of all ages

a series of household items up-cycled out discarded products that have been
produced but never sold, reversing the production process
from the unworthy many to the desirable few.
focusing on an alternative production process; organic like textures are constructed
differently each time, thus offering a more expressive working experience replacing
a classic industrial assembly line.
Depending on a limited amount of available materials we create collections, changing
by the constant flow of available materials.

Lint is just there; a by product of a routine task we all take for
granted. ByProduct is a series of objects that highlight materials and processes
around us.
ByProduct is a chance to :
Re-introduce a material we see as redundant
Re-discover an effortless production process
Re-view the way we see our immediate surroundings
Re-think our actions and possibilities.

FoReal Team consists of Saron Paz, Tomer Daniel and Zvika Markfeld. Its a join effort to create new and creative platforms that link
the virtual world with the physical reality. ForReal Team collaborates with artists, programmer and developers to experiment
with new technologies and expose them to the public. ForReal projects include :
the show&Tell Glove, ActionPainter App, SiteSpecific interactions
The GuerillaGreen Initiative is a call to join forces with nature in it's
subtle fight against enforced 'world order' in the urban
surroundings, to loose control, go wild, create diversity, color and break
through.
during the opening of the TOLHUISTUIN seed balls (a self contained cluster of soil and different seeds) were
spread by the public in a chaotic, fun manner using a catapult, a spinning
'pinata' & a water rocket.
In Zaandam We followed the journey of pit, the sunflower seed. Together with kids of all ages we followed pits dreams, dilemmas and wonderful adventures. The story of pit
invites us to take an active part in helping pit along his way.
Through story, fantasy and active participation we tried to incorporate our ‘organic’ connection to the nature around us in our urban city lives.

Peeling the initial cube unravels various seating
arrangements and leaves behind a trail of 'left overs' which can be
freely designed.
The balance between designed shapes and modular interpretation changes
as the cube is unfolded.
Returning to the original cube requires an overall understanding of the designed
structure.

A ring that leaves a precious useless leftover.

'The plate, representing private or public space, is part of the table ritual reflecting aesthetic and cultural values both individual and communal. The ritual is meant not only to satisfy our physiological needs, but reflect social custom and traditions. The series of plates exhibited here presents a multidimensional experience through the utilization of daily situations, casting them in a new order that fluctuates between the private and the public'.

A glove that translates sign language into text. The idea was initially
conceived as an alternative communication platform for future wearable computers
in order to bridge between the virtual textual and offline physical
communication.
The use of sign language presents a poetic solution; taking a tool used today by
communicatively disabled people and putting it to use in order to enable and
enhance the communication skills of the rest of us.
LetraSet allows the individual to regain influence on his surroundings. LetraSet is a template for people passing by to express themselves with, expose a simple message,
to put a word out there.
On the street level a consul will be positioned which will control each letter individually. The light boxes will be positioned beside other publicly published massages -
commercial, historic or other and will allow the public to have their own ‘piece of mind‘ that might be a personal massage of a bystander, a political statement or even a
spontaneous reaction on the surrounding, whatever it may be it will be dynamic, up to date, democratic and will require the physical presence of the creator weather he be a
permanent resident or a temporary passing by.
I chose to create a LetraSet of 5 letters since the average word length in English, French, Spanish and German is 5.4275 letters.

A chair that 'demands your attention' and getting to know it better before you can comfortably sit on it.

The Story Store explores the relationship between designer, product and
consumer. How can we create an alternative buying experience. A more meaningful,
involved and intimate connection between buyer and product.
selected designers create objects to fit in a box. The objects are then concealed
within numbered boxes, the only means of communication between product and
consumer being a short story written by the designer. The consumer can choose a
story from the catalouge and buying into more than just an object...
